Directions that survive a flight
The trip's Directions link opened an empty map on any trip with a flight in it. It is gone: each arrival between two cities is now its own link, Google Maps by land and Google Flights by air.
Press Directions on the Itinerary and the whole trip opened in Google Maps, city after city. Unless one of those legs was a flight: Google Maps cannot draw a flight, and rather than skip it, it gives up on the whole route and shows nothing at all. A trip that crossed a sea, or hopped from Bogota to Madrid, got an empty map. Google Flights cannot take the whole trip either, one pair of cities at a time is all a link can ask it.
- The Itinerary's Directions link is gone. A link that opens nothing is worse than none.
- Each arrival between two cities is its own link, on the pill that says how you get there: Directions in Google Maps for a drive, a train or a ferry, Google Flights for a flight, on the day you arrive, or your booking if you already have one.
- The Day's Directions is unchanged: every stop of the day, in order, in one link.
About the stop numbers
We were asked for a day's stops to carry their itinerary numbers inside Google Maps. Maps does not allow it: it replaces every stop's name with its own and labels them A, B, C itself. It does keep the order, so the third stop in Maps is the third stop of your day.
A place with no road, like the valley under Machu Picchu, still cannot be drawn by Google Maps, by any link. The train there is its own ride in the day.
