Six trips in the community, rebuilt from scratch
Every trip we publish has been rewritten around real places, so the map draws the whole day, every stop is connected, and the budgets run from a $46-a-day backpacker route to a $494-a-day safari. Shared trips now name where you stayed.
The trips in the community are the first thing most people open, and they were written before places existed in the app. They named a hotel but did not know where it was, so the map under them was empty. All six have been rebuilt.
- Every stay, meal, ride and activity now sits on a real place, so the map draws the day: numbered stops, the route between them, and a card on each one.
- Every stop is joined to the next by a leg that says how you get there, how far it is and roughly how long it takes. Press it for the directions.
- A day begins and ends where you sleep, and a shared trip now says where that is. Booking links stay private, as they always have.
- Every day is walked in the order that covers it in the fewest kilometres, breakfast still first. One Nairobi day used to cross the city twice.
- The day you move on begins at the station or airport you land at, not the one you left. Your map of that day is the city you are in, not a line across the continent, and the journey between the two is shown between the days where it belongs.
- A day tells you what it is. A day spent on a train to the next city gets the train and an evening, not an invented morning.
- Budgets run from $46 a day backpacking Thailand and Laos to $494 a day on safari in Kenya and Tanzania, in the local currency of wherever you are standing.
- Every trip leaves from home and comes back to it, the way a trip actually goes.
- Every night has somewhere to sleep, and it is the right kind: a dorm bed, a campground, a ryokan, a tented camp.
